My paintings:
What is art
Ever since the dawn of history, art was a way to convey messages.
Cave paintings directed hunters to the hunted animal, expressed his joy and pride in the successful hunt, or even plan a hunting tactic, as does the bee dancing in front of her fellow bees to inform them where the sweet nectar is.
Sculpture and architecture of the temples are designed to glorify God.
The ancient Greeks art tell myths stories as well as convey a sense of beauty. Itinerant poets and singers preserve historical stories and myths.
The Catholic Church told the ignorant who could not read religious stories in architecture, pictures, and statues.
The impressionist conveys feelings through their paintings.
Only recently we witness meaningless modern art which, for me does not fit the category of art.
Artists without talent who are unable to draw staining the canvas by sheer chance do not create art. At most, we can call it a decoration but cannot be considered art. Yes, water droplets grooved on a rock can create a sculpture, but is it art? If the work does not reflect what the artist intended to convey either because of lack of talent or because he did not want to say anything in the first place, it is not art. What right does the artist has to sign such work even if he caused it?
Artist's ability to control his art (that is his talent), and his desire to send a message to viewers of his work, are necessary but not sufficient conditions to define a work as art.
Once these conditions are met, we could debate what he meant. Different audiences can understand the artwork differently. A correlation between the message the artist wants to deliver and audience understanding both should share a common culture.
Some argue that there is not necessarily a connection between the artist's creation and what the viewer sees in the work. In such a definition of art, basically, everything is art. A bird flying in the sky- is a work of art. Toilet fixed to the wall – is a work of art.
In this definition of a work of art, there is no need for artists, and do not even need the viewer who understands what he see. Such art require only some marketing system or a PR.
I think art should convey in a powerful way the artists´ massage.
Massages can be narrative or emotional, or any other massage. Different viewers should be impressed and understand the way the artist intended.
These two elements, define a work of art - artist meaning and the ability to express it.
